Key Benefits

Whether planning to irrigate, or wishing to improve the efficiency of your existing system, exploring the possibilities and the unique character of your land beforehand can save you big dollars.
Do you know where your precious water ends up once it has soaked beneath the ground surface?

Here, soil moisture retention has been calculated for the entire property using actual measurements from a small number of sample soil pits.

The blue areas have good water holding character (good loams and sandy clay loams), whereas the orange areas drain quickly, being on loamy sand soils.

Optimised for property layout and management needs
Application rates for each management unit can be quickly produced, based on the real qualities of the underlying soils.

In this case the property was set up for separate control of irrigation flow at the paddock level. The variation of the soil moisture holding quality was easily measured, and averaged for   each  paddock.

Four flow rates were decided by the Manager as optimal for existing equipment, pressure and water availability.

Each paddock was put into a new irrigation plan matching the Manager's practical requirements with the soils properties.

..and for the equipment and personnel of any operation
Showing the existing irrigation mains made it simple to see where the most convenient and economical additions were needed to feed the intended expansion.

Even basic material requirements are effortlessly generated.

No need to wonder what happens to your valuable inputs once they disappear beneath the land surface!

Using the same soil pit sample data, it is now possible to "see" how the soil (or rock) layers appear beneath your land, analyse how it is likely to influence your crop's root zone, and even calculate water holding capacity for each paddock.

The figure here shows how low water holding capacity (brown and orange areas on the middle B horizon layer) has been used to recommend the optimum irrigation strategy (dark blue on the top layer) for each management unit.
