Web Changes
This is where we'll announce the most recent additions to our web site. If you've
visited us before and want to know what's changed, take a look here first.
| Reducing our carbon footprint |
We are conscious of our responsibilities for
minimising our environmental impact. In addition to using "the cloud" for
product distribution, switching to low-energy lighting, using bikes for shorter trips and
commutes and many of the other small thing most of us are doing or considering, we have
begun our journey toward "green energy". Commencing April 2011, we installed our
first roof-top solar electricity generating system at our main office. We have monitored
performance carefully and have been pleased with the results, so much so we have
commissioned additional solar capacity which we hope will fully meet our operational
electricity requirements on an annual basis. |
| Bogus e-mails and other Internet rubbish.. |
January 2012. Unfortunately, once again we have
been experiencing a growing volume of spoof mails claiming to originate from, or sent to
our domain. All are the unfortunate result of desperados wanting your attention.
Fortunately most are correctly identified as unwanted and are removed by system scans
before reaching their destination. Please be assured that MapMakers Australia does not and
never will use Internet or e-mail systems to distribute unsolicited material of any kind. |
| In response to requests from clients, we've added two
new pages. The first is an overview of GIS and
mapping technology for beginners. We hope it removes a lot of the mystery and
confusion faced by the growing number of first time GIS users
Our second new page is for both new and existing GIS users. It looks at
industry practices for providing support for users,
and explains how the large software companies try and lock in users to using their own
particular types of software and network of franchisee agents. It also offers alternatives
to these established and often expensive procedures. |

Have a look at our new virtual
fly-through service. Click on the image to view an animated (600k) fly-through. This
example uses one of our forestry planning applications showing how streams and rivers can
be classified to minimise environmental damage during logging operations. Have a closer
look at the page.. |
 |
Having developed and
successfully used our own Natural Resource Survey Database for several years, we are
pleased to announce it is now available to anyone.
This application will allow you to make sense of
even the most complex survey data! Full of features and with built in data checking and
labour saving data entry functions, check it out in more detail for
yourself - we're sure you won't be disappointed! |
 |
New addition to our site is an
interesting look at how spatial technologies can be used to help solve some of the
problems which face our important forest industries. These include practical
implementation of forest practice guidelines, and an interesting example of "crystal
ball gazing" when new plantations are being established faster than ever. Have a look. |
 |
We have an
extensive range of highly detailed environmental data, including climatic and land related
data.
In late 2006, Australia Post withdrew from sale its Postcode
Areas digital data. In response, MapMakers Australia developed up-to-date postcode boundary data for the entire nation. |
 |
We have further developed our
catchment and river management services.
Check out the page
to see the exciting possibilities now available to all Landcare Groups and organisations
who are concerned with planning and management at this fundamental level. |

|
We have recently added
significant new analytical, visualisation and productivity software to our tool chest.
This allows us to offer even greater services. Check out our services
pages to get a glimpse of these expanding capabilities, and see them put into action
throughout the site! |
 |
Conservation and land management
is of growing interest throughout the community. In recognition we have significantly
expanded the site's exploration of how we can help to resolve environmental problems of
all kinds.
So don't despair, if you think you've got
a problem, we've almost certainly got the solution! |
| Aerial Photography |
We arrange this to suit the needs of
clients, and can usually arrange it within days. If your need is not urgent, let us know
your requirements and we can almost certainly save you Alternatively
we can tell you what is already available for your area, and make any special arrangements
including orthocorrection, mosaicing, and enlargements. |
