The only Natural Resource Management
data capture and validation product you'll ever need!
The perfect solution for integrating complex survey data into your GIS
or desktop mapping environment.
Bringing together our own experience and the expertise of Australia's leading
scientists, our comprehensive software allows anyone to implement accurate and effective
NRM surveys. The intuitive interface guides users through all the steps required, and then
seamlessly bring the data into your mapping environment for analysis and decision support.
At last you can say a final "goodbye" to messy spreadsheets,
inefficient GIS attribute tables, and overpriced prophesying relational database
solutions! As a stand alone runtime product, or using MS Access and MS Windows OS
(Windows XP or 2000 required for Access 2000 and Access 2002+ versions), land management
professionals and community groups alike now have the tool to make real progress toward
our goal of sustainable development.
Below you will find an illustrated guide to the features of MapMakers' Natural Resource
Survey Database.
| A simple and intuitive interface allows users to immediately get on
with the job. Support for multiple surveys within a single database. Pre-configured
with all commonly utilised Australian coordinate systems. User friendly interface for
adding all other international coordinate system.
Separate screens for fixed site details and for more dynamic biological elements
are accessed from the main menu. This makes the once difficult job of monitoring change
over time, a breeze! |

|
| A simple series of pages is accessed to record the details of the
site being surveyed. This is essential both for initial and subsequent mapping, and to
allow accurate relocation of sites for monitoring purposes. GPS
compatible, but not essential! |

|
| Drop-down boxes allow easy selection of Standard
definitions of site features, ensuring all users generate data which is of value
nationally and internationally. Where no standards are available,
MapMakers' have produced a field guide to provide all the help required. |

|
| New to the current version, and recognising that the scale of
available topographic mapping is not consistent, you can now draw your own "sketch
map", and embed it in the database. In addition, users of MapInfo®
can embed live GIS maps to seamlessly integrate locational and survey data. |

|
| To facilitate entry of vegetation data, we make available
comprehensive species lists, eliminating spelling errors and much of the typing! With
a little practice, even novices will be able to quickly and accurately collect all the
data needed for comprehensive decision making.. |

|
| Understanding the need to get up and running fast, we have built in
functions which allow non-specialists to collect accurate botanical data, even if they
don't have any knowledge of plant identification! All that's required is for the user to
be able to recognise when a plant is different from others. |

|
| Our system makes the collection and labelling of specimens for
identification, virtually infallible. Even better, analysis can commence
immediately, while final identifications can be updated in the entire data base as they
become available, eliminating bottle necks associated with conventional approaches.. |

|
| ..and to make life even easier for those new to survey techniques,
you can select the detailed layout option for each species - the data ends up in same
place and is subject to the same checks, it just makes gaining the right experience that
much more enjoyable! |

|
| Plant community structure, like most other data is stored as simple
numbers to make analysis easy and data storage efficient, but you still "see"
real words! |

|
| The dynamics of plant and animal interaction are accommodated,
again allowing effective monitoring of, for example, pest control measures. |

|
| Land degradation is of concern to all. Our simple but comprehensive
approach allows land managers to make informed decisions about where best to apply
precious remediation resources. |

|
| We've even included a place where livestock managers can monitor
the impact of stocking rates and related factors on the vital soil surface.. |

|
| Soil is the hidden engine room of land productivity. Often
considered too "technical" for non-specialists to grasp - we've made
understanding your soil just about as easy as it can get! Based on the soil's natural
"layered" structure, the full character and thus capability of the soil can be
quickly captured.. Data is thoroughly checked against standards at time
of capture. To accommodate evolving standards, users can add non standard entries, and the
application will flag these for subsequent attention..
See our soils page for some examples! |
 |
| Using standard field sheets (available from MapMakers, or you can
do your own), or direct data entry, the whole process is logical and designed to give
maximum information return. While it is certainly not important to assign
a name or "classification" to soils (these are just handy "labels" for
soil professionals), we offer an optional service to do this if required. |

|
| Once you're ready to find out "what it all means", the
product allows anything from simple to highly involved questions to be posed and answered,
both internally, and within virtually any desktop mapping
or GIS application. When you get the results, you will be assured the
underlying data has been validated to the best available standard, and that you can stand
confidently with your findings! |
